Tensions between Iran and the United States remain high as Tehran says the war is not over, while Washington has rejected an Iranian proposal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. A senior Iranian general said the country had won the war but now needed to consolidate what he described as its victory. He also warned Gulf countries that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until what Tehran calls US economic warfare against Iran comes to an end.

The comments came after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the strategically important waterway within seven days. Trump described the proposal as unacceptable and said Iran had made the offer because, in his assessment, it was losing the conflict. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, however, said Tehran would not back down from its conditions following Washington's rejection of the roadmap.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also said Tehran no longer trusts negotiations with Washington. In an interview with Al Jazeera, he said previous rounds of talks had repeatedly been followed by further attacks and sanctions, undermining confidence in the diplomatic process. The dispute over the Strait of Hormuz has added another major pressure point to the wider conflict.
