The Human Frontline Calls for Immediate Action Over White House Media Restrictions

The Human Frontline is calling for immediate attention and further investigation following US President Donald Trump’s announcement targeting CNN, MS NOW and Politico for exclusion from the White House.

The Human Frontline’s Executive Director said that independent journalism must be protected, particularly when journalists are reporting on issues that affect people, communities and the wider world. “CNN is not only reporting for one country or one administration. Its journalists are working on stories that matter to communities across the United States and around the world. Independent news organizations play an essential role in informing the public and bringing important issues to the ground,” the Executive Director said.

The Human Frontline believes that no president, government, political party or other authority should be able to silence or restrict a news organization simply because it disagrees with its reporting. Any decision affecting journalists’ access should be subject to transparency, due process and appropriate legal scrutiny.

The organization is therefore requesting a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the restrictions announced against CNN and the other affected outlets, as well as immediate action to ensure that journalists can continue carrying out their professional responsibilities without political interference.

“CNN and its journalists are needed on the ground. Communities need journalists who can report, question those in power and bring information to the public. Journalism must remain able to do its work,” the Executive Director said.

The Human Frontline also calls on relevant institutions, press-freedom organizations and legal authorities to closely examine the matter and ensure that the rights and safety of journalists are protected.

At the heart of this issue is a broader principle:

journalism exists to serve the public, not those in power.
